Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps

Carbon free energy from the air or ground

Air Source Heat Pumps

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) absorb heat from the outside air. This heat can then be used to feed radiators, underfloor heating systems, or warm air convectors, as well as hot water for your home.

ASHPs do require electricity to operate, but only around 25 percent is needed as input, with the remainder being generated from the unit itself.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) use pipes that are buried in the ground to extract heat. They gather natural heat from the ground around your property which can then be used to fuel radiators, underfloor heating and hot water in your home.

As ground temperatures are relatively consistent all year round, they're considered a stable and reliable energy source and can even be used for cooling in hot weather.

Is a heat pump suitable for me?

Unlike gas and oil boilers, heat pumps deliver central heating water at lower temperatures over much longer periods. During the winter, they may need to be on constantly to heat your home efficiently. You will also notice that radiators won’t feel as hot to touch as they might do when you're using a gas or oil boiler.

We'll carry out a full survey to determine suitability, such as whether your heat emitters (radiators/underfloor heating) need to be upgraded to supply the same energy to the room, given the lower flow temperatures of heat pumps.

Get in touch and we'll discuss your needs before suggesting the best solution for you. We always offer impartial advice and if we do not feel a heat pump is right, we'll suggest an alternative, even if it's not a product we install.
